Why use an active converter?
There are three ways to get from RCA (unbalanced) to XLR (balanced)
- Use an RCA to XLR adapter
- With an RCA to XLR adapter, you break the balanced input on your amplifier or pre-amp because 1/2 of the XLR input is shorted to the RCA’s shield. Depending on the design of the balanced input, this can have multiple undesirable effects.
- Use a transformer-based Converter
- The optimal performance of a transformer-based converter hinges on precise impedance matching for both RCA and XLR sides. Despite correct matching, AC coupling induced by the transformer can lead to undesirable bass phase shifts and roll off
- Use an active converter

Amazed at Starkrimson 25 mono amps for my two main L/R speakers in stereo setup. Had a long run from equipment to speakers , ran XLR through attic about 50ft, amps are small and wall mounted near speakers with short speaker cables. Sounds great

This product was purchased to replace a dropped/ broken converter ,I had bought from van alstine audio. The orchard audio converter was unusable in my system due to noise introduced when in use. No reconfiguration of power cords, or ground lifting from my amplifiers had any effect on the noise.
I bought another unit from van alstine audio, which works as it should.

My Amp only has XLR inputs. Also the same amp wants higher signal level than the 3 arms new dac outputs. I should have read up on both.
This converter makes it work. It sounds great to me.

The adapter functionally works as it should. It would benefit from an external power status indicator. I would also like to see a more audiophile enclosure rather than the very basic plastic pecan Pi enclosure. That aside, it does what it is supposed to do and does it well

I have used this to use my preamp which has only RCA out to connect to the starkrimsom monoblocks and these do the job really well. Very transparent and high quality conversion. Highly recommend.

I don’t have anything to compare it to, but I use pro mixer amps & a pro audio subwoofer which only has XLR Input. It works fine from my preamp which only has RCA output. I can only guess that the unit is over priced being that it’s $299 & my preamp I paid $169 for on Amazon. It sounds pretty good though as far as I’m concerned. I’d really like to try the Starkrimpson amps but I certainly can’t afford those.

The Stereo RCA to XLR Converter converted single ended output from the Rouge RP-1 preamp to Balance for the Bryston 3B3 amp and sound improved considerably. Wider soundstage, better placement of instrument, improved/cleaner bass.
Wonderful product, I’m completely satisfied and I recommend the Stereo RCA to XLR Converter to anyone who needs this type of conversion, it’s well worth it.

I bought this RCA to XLR converter from Leo to run signal from my single ended only tube pre to a pair of balanced Cherry monos and it’s working quite well. It’s completely transparent and I am happy that the amps are receiving a full balanced signal to drive them properly. Another banger from Orchard Audio.
