Starkrimson & Starkrimson 25 Mono Premium Rolling Buffer Upgrade
Upgrade your Starkrimson Mono Premium or Starkrimon 25 Mono Premium amplifers with a user‑swappable input buffer op-amp.
This factory‑installed upgrade adds a precision input buffer board featuring a DIP‑8 socket, enabling safe and reliable op‑amp rolling for users who want to fine‑tune their system’s sonic character. The design follows best practices for high‑performance audio circuitry, ensuring stable operation with a wide range of dual DIP‑8 compatible op‑amps.
Each upgraded unit ships with the Sparkos SS3602, a discrete dual op‑amp known for low noise, wide bandwidth, and excellent linearity. Users may substitute other dual DIP‑8 devices to tailor the amplifier’s tonal balance, transient behavior, or overall presentation to their preferences. All work is performed in‑house to maintain electrical integrity and full compatibility with the amplifier modules.
For enthusiasts who enjoy experimenting with front‑end voicing while preserving the amplifier’s core performance, this upgrade offers a flexible and technically sound path to personalization.
The input buffer board also provides selectable gain to help you optimize the amplifier for your specific system. It ships configured for 0 dB gain to maintain the original Starkrimson signal path and noise performance. For systems that benefit from additional front‑end sensitivity, the board can be set to 6 dB gain by removing jumpers (shunts). Clear instructions are provided, and the adjustment can be performed without specialized tools. This flexibility allows you to match source components more precisely while preserving the amplifier’s low‑noise, wide‑bandwidth design philosophy.
This upgrade is not compatible with the older Starkrimson Mono amplifiers, which used external power supplies.

Very good sounding amplifiers and very Well constructed. I was really impressed with the level of detail that I got out theses amplifiers, I used them in my system, they were able to keep up with my Joseph Audio Speakers. I used these amplifiers with my Primaluna preamplifier and they were very good.
Lots of details, mid bass was fantastic and high notes were beautiful; in the low bass region I do prefer a bit more bass but to be fair my speakers are 86 dB so they like a lot of power! But even though that was the case I was playing music in my system in about 88db and never felt short and never got distorted at any point not even when I was playing La Bamba – Jazz Variants.
So great job Leo!!!

I have enjoyed Orchard amps from the original Starkrimson (mono’s and also the Duo), to the 25’s, and now was able to try out the “OB” (Opamp Buffered, my naming) 25 mono’s.
Moving from the standard amps to the 25’s gave several improvements, especially in soundstage, clarity, and even more bass control.
With the OB 25’s, the capability now exists to tailor sound by switching opamps. For me, the Sparkos were my favorites, capturing yet more details within the mix and presenting a slightly larger stage to me. Even more background details were clarified and easier to discern. I tried the Burson’s, both the V7 Vivid and Classic. The Vivid’s opened up the Soundstage even more, expanding the size and depth to an amazing degree. Tonally, it wasn’t as transparent in the upper highs as the Sparkos’, and the mids had a slight “presence” to them almost like a really good tube amp. The V7 Classic’s were a little more neutral and closed in compared to the Vivid’s, but still great overall.
The stock 25’s are a great sounding amp, and adding this opamp buffer board gives even more options to improve, and help the amps match your taste and the speakers they drive.
This is a wonderful upgrade that should please any owner or potential owner. Another great step forward for these amps!

I had the chance to be one of the testers for this new input buffer upgrade, and it turned out to be exactly what I’ve always wanted from my Starkrimson Mono Premium amps. The Sparkos SS3602 that comes installed is an excellent starting point, but the real magic is the ability to roll op‑amps. I have a lot of op‑amps in my collection, and being able to swap them in and out safely and easily suits my tweaking tendencies. After trying a bunch of options, my favorite by far is the Burson V7V Dual.
The selectable gain feature is another thoughtful touch. I tested both 0 dB and 6 dB, and the flexibility made it simple to dial in the perfect match with my front end. The instructions were clear, and the whole design feels like it was built by someone who understands how enthusiasts actually use their gear.
If you enjoy experimenting and squeezing every last bit of performance out of your system, this upgrade is a must. My amps have never sounded better.
