I read a review in futureaudiophile. com of the Orchard Audio Pecan Pi+ Premium, and how it hits way above its weight class in terms of performance and sound quality, and that you’d have to spend three to five times more on a digital streamer to maybe eek out even the slightest improvement in sound quality. I read some other reviews and became convinced. I have mine installed in a system with Musical Fidelity M6sPRE pre amplifier and M6sPRX power amplifier. Other music sources are a Marantz 60 CD player and a Mobile Fidelity Fender PrecisionDeck Turntable with Master Tracker Cartridge. The system runs through a DBX 1231 Graphic Equalizer, and is entirely balanced throughout with high quality XLR cables. I’m using a high quality Cat 8 cable from the internet modem to the PecanPi+. The system runs out to Klipsch RO-6000F II speakers paired with Klipsch RP500SA II speakers which I have carefully bi-wired to the same speaker outputs and are therefore running at 4 Ohms instead of 8. While I enjoy the physical media of records and CDs, the Pecan Pi+ has an outstanding space-filling sound stage. I’m using Tidal for my streaming and downloaded music, and the combination of the Pecan Pi+ and Tidal has opened up my access to more high quality music than I could ever hope to own as physical media. I could not be more pleased with the audiophile level of sound that I’m getting with the Pecan Pi+ Premium. Leo Ayzenshtat has done an outstanding job of designing and building this terrific streamer, and he and his boutique audiophile firm are doing it right here, built in the U. S. A. I’ll take this any day over something made in China. Thanks Leo, well done!

I recently upgraded my PecanPiePlus Premium with the Raspberry Pi 5. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I’ve been extremely happy with the increase in speed. The Pi 5 finds and prepares files to be played in an instant and switches between streaming service, Internal storage and NAS just a fast – amazing! More importantly the whole set-up is more stable and has been operating glitch free. Gone are the hiccups and freeze out sessions when playing high Rez files off of the internet. Oh, and don’t forget, this is by far the best looking and best sounding streamer/DAC combination anywhere near the price. As for the Pi 5- It’s a great upgrade – highly recommended.

The Orchard Audio Pecan Pi+ Premier has become the centre of my digital audio system. Compact yet feature-rich for my needs, it functions superbly as a music streamer, DAC, pre-amp and headphone amp in a single chassis.
Sonically, it exceeded my expectations—clear, transparent, with excellent timbre, texture and decay. PRAT is excellent, and the presentation is immersive, drawing you closer to the music and encouraging long listening sessions.
The Volumio app works well once you’re familiar with the interface. Build and design are equally appealing: the diminutive size, bevelled front fascia and beautifully etched Orchard Audio tree logo make it a handsome, conversation-starting piece of gear.
Overall, the Pecan Pi+ delivers outstanding performance and value, comfortably exceeding my expectations.

Thank you Leo for walking me through a few issues that had nothing to do with the streamer of Volumio. Hooking up the streamer via hard wire Ethernet took 5-10 minutes. I really like the Volumio app too. It’s easy to use and works seamlessly with the Pecan Pi+ Streamer Premium.
I listened to a few albums on the streamer/dac and compared the same albums on my turntable using a Van den Hul HO moving coil Frog. I liked the Pecan Pi+ much more-especially the transients and the depth of the soundstage. I still like playing records so maybe it’s time to update to a tube preamp! Now, from my perspective, that says quite a bit about this streamer/dac. If you’re on the fence get off of it-I think you’ll be amazed.

Very very good. Previously I was using a Cambridge Audio EXN100 as a steaming DAC. The Orchard Audio is without question considerably better in all facets of sound quality. I’m not sold on Volumio yet but it works fine once you get used to it.

The metal chassis & smooth knob make for a really nice build quality and feel.
The touch screen interface is sluggish and not always responsive as I had to restart the unit occasionally. I understand there’s an app and in that use case it works great. However, I want to interface with the screen especially when using headphones. The headphone amp section is nice to have but it’s more for iems or efficient headphones, power hungry headphones would require one of their dedicated amps. Definitely better to have it than not. Outputting to my dedicated speaker or headphone amplifiers works great. As a streamer there is definitely tough competition out there. Overall it’s a nice product that fits in their product stack and would benefit from refinement on the digital side of things.

The sound is the best I’ve had thus far. The unit doesn’t always respond to the remote selections and will lock up. It won’t play until I power cycle it. A bit frustrating. . .

I bought the PecanPi+ Premium on a hunch and because of my VERY positive experience with a pair of OA’s mono amps. My mono’s needed a bit more gain, and Leo said to send them in and it would be done (reasonable price too!). Several weeks passed (OK about 2 months) and I finally sent the mono’s in. Leo suggested that I allow him to install something new (again for a reasonable price). I guess the something new is very special, because these great sounding amps came back to me sounding like one of my all-time favorite SS amps and eerily similar to some VERY expensive tube amps that I love but are just too many $$$. They play with an “ease” and holistic richness that feels Natural and Organic.
So, while my Streamer and DAC were both very good performers, I’ve been wanting to improve the musicality of these important components. From the improvement the “upgrade” to my amps made, I could tell that Leo “gets it” – at least from the perspective of a guy like me who learned to read music (age 3. 5) before I learned to read words. Being around live, well performed un-amplified music from a very young age – there is right and wrong and I can’t always describe or define it. Having PecanPi+ Premium in my system for a couple of weeks now, I can say that I made the right choice – absolutely! This is the first piece of digital gear that I have ever had in “My system” that sounded “right”, Organic and Natural. I’m able to relax and simply listen to the music w/o having my ear-brain system assaulted with wrong information. I’ve heard one other piece of digital gear that does this – and it cost more than both of my cars put together! To achieve this at Orchard Audio’s selling price is somewhat unbelievable. PecanPi+ Premium replaced a well known, very popular streamer, a sub $2K DAC that is widely considered a “go to” in its price range, and a $4K class A SS pre-amp. With PecanPI+ Premium the sound is every bit as transparent as before, but now it is more relaxed and Natural. Aural minutia such as room sounds from the recorded space and long reverb trails flow with ease. The soundstage is wider and deeper, and there are many more layers of depth within that immense stage. Timbre is also spot on contributing to what I experience as an Organic and Natural musical experience. I’ve had to learn the Volumio player – which at my age it isn’t easy to learn anything! But, I’m navigating Volumio quite well,
A big surprise with PecanPi+ Premium is how well it handles some heavy rock music that I really like, but can hardly stand to listen to. Jethro Tull’s “Clasp” from the Beastie album can now blast away at 100+dB without the razor blades killing my ears! Same with Boston’s first album and Five Finger Death Punch’s Cover of the song Bad Company! My advice is “get yourself a piece of this Pi !!! PecanPI+ Premium is a winner!

I am truly stunned by the clarity and separation I am experiencing. My last streamer / dac left me unable to play some of my favorite music due to its harsh presentation. Top notch products at a fair price. After purchasing an amp and DAC/streamer from Leo I sold an $11k Amp and $2400 DAC from high end, well known manufacturers and have no regrets. Sound quality surpasses components they replaced. No bells and whistles but who really needs them.

Thank you for the feedback. The screen can be turned off there is a setting for the screen time out. If you do not see the setting you need to update the software, you can manually do this though the settings menu as well.

The worst customer service I have ever experienced. I returned the streamer because the Volumio software is terrible. Orchard audio told me that streamer was damaged and refused to give me a full refund, showing me a picture of some damaged streamer telling me they received it that way and that was my streamer which im not buying it at all. All in all, very very bad experience

Really enjoying the PecanPi + Premium. Have had a few streamer/ dacs from some well known companies prior to the Premium and this bests all of them. Very dynamic sounding without being fatiguing. Also outputting digital from an Oppo 105D which totally blows the Oppo’s dac away!

a revving motor sounds more convincing. Pi handles busy, multi-instrumental crescendos better, as demonstrated by the hectic finale of PhatBacc.
I haven’t had a chance to compare this unit to any other streamer/DAC combos in it’s price range but the DAC beat the pants off the BiFrost and based on online and youtuber reviews the overall package does too. I have never heard such clarity in my system. Less fuzzy and blaring, more controlled and detailed.

I have used Orchard Audio’s Pecan Pi DAC/streamers for several years now. When Leo introduced the “Plus” version using the AKM chips, I jumped at the chance to get one.
I now have 3 of them: a Plus streamer (regular case, no screen), a DIY board used in an all-in-one unit, and now the Plus Streamer Premium (I got a pre-production unit, but it is the same inside as the production units).
The Pecan Pi Plus units sound incredible. As good as the “regular” Pecan Pi was, these are even better. Compared to the prior Pi units, and to just about any competition in its price range (and I’ve heard a lot!), the Plus units deliver incredible transparency, a large soundstage with precise imaging, and excellent tonal balance from deepest bass to highest highs. I hear deeper into the music, and it sounds more natural, not artificial or glaring at all.
On top of all this, the Plus Premium offers SPDIF input as a DAC, and a headphone output as well. While I have not tried the headphone out (I have 2 other dedicated HP amps), I HAD tried headphone output briefly on the standard-case Plus via XLS adapter cables. And I can say the headphone output is very enjoyable and powerful as well.
With the Plus Premium unit the new case design is more appealing, with a angled front face and the Orchard Logo etched on top. While Orchard has always been first and foremost about the sound – and it’s awesome – it’s still nice to see a little bit of eye candy in the enclosure, without going overboard on audio “jewelry” and costing the consumer too much more.
I believe that the original Pecan Pi streamer/DAC was one of the best values in audio. The Plus version raises the bar again, and to me the value per dollar is even higher.

What can I say?
In a world of a million and one Streamers and DACs, a few stand out. One of those is the Orchard Audio Pecan Pi+ Streamer Premium. I compared the Pi+SP with handfuls of streamers and DACs, and none of them could hang with the performance that the Pi+SP brought to the table. My AresII, Bifrost II, Ladder Schuman, Eversolo DMP with LPS upgrade, Black Ice FX Tube Dac, and ARCE streamer all sit collecting dust. Leo, in his mission for “Less is More,” with a HEAVY focus on “Quality Parts,” created a Streamer Dac that literally makes you sit up and take notice. From the separation and detail it brings to the soundstage to the ultra-black background with superb imaging, this unit dresses to impress!! The added definition and detail to the bass it brings is very welcome!! You will be hard-pressed to find a Streamer DAC combo under $2000 that will bring you more. This Orchard Audio Pecan Pi+ Streamer Premium now sits as my reference in my studio system. From the clean and clear touch screen to the awesome chassis and case, the recessed logo on top, and the robust rear connectors, you will think you bought something at twice the price!!! Well done Leo!!

This is the bests DAC that money can buy! When I received this DAC from Leo, I was shocked right away. The level of clarity that this DAC can delivers is unreal, the separation of instruments is fantastic, bass is tight, natural sounding, the depth is fantastic, the sound stage is great and not to mention the build quality! This DAC is built like a tank! This is a top notch design. I can listen for hours without fatiguing at all.
