my previous amplifier, a Rotel RB1552 mkII, has a terrific sound that i would recommend to anyone who enjoys solid state gear. the Ultra Monos are on a different level that in my system is demonstrated by the midrange and top end (my loudspeakers don’t make much bass. )
whereas the Rotel has a gentle V curve that highlights top end detail, the Ultras provide further detail the hard way, without such a curve, but by extracting and reproducing more actual information. this is a difference that is most striking in complex orchestral music, or other genres that have many concurrent layers. this is a music lover’s amplifier and i’ll be rediscovering my library for the next couple of years, probably. BIG FAN.

I recently upgraded my system to the Starkrimson Mono Ultra Premium amplifiers, and I’m absolutely blown away by the difference it’s made. I’ve been using Magnepan 1. 7x speakers for a while now, and they’ve always sounded great, but the Starkrimson amps have taken them to a whole new level.
The first thing I noticed was the incredible clarity and detail of the sound. Every instrument and vocal is perfectly defined, and there’s a sense of depth and space that I’ve never experienced before. The bass is also incredibly powerful and punchy, with plenty of impact and detail.
I was previously using a 100lb class AB amplifier, and the Starkrimson Mono Ultra Premiums are significantly smaller and lighter. However, they don’t sacrifice any power or performance. I would argue that they sound way better than the larger amplifier I was using.
If you’re looking for a high-quality amplification that will transform your listening experience, I highly recommend the Starkrimson Mono Ultra Premiums. They’re simply the best amplifiers I’ve ever heard.
